The theater is an indication of the society’s health and its educational level so we must hold on to it and define it as a social institution held by the individuals’ work where it produces a consumer’s product that contributes in promotion and cohesion of the social group, but its most important role is its contribution in the enrichment of intellectual and artistic lives for society, because it is the most capable of reading the world and human suffering and analyzing thoughts and situations.
The theater is a modern incarnation for one of the most expressive arts with the greatest impact because it is the channel that interacts on its stage and it fuses all the social, cultural and educational issues in a live and influential template where it renders all other forms of art helpless in reaching the level of influence that the theater delivers to the spectator. In turn, the university theater was able to provide an outline of issues of cultural, social, political, and even some of which were humanitarian, which were presented to the reality of pension, and some are made for social and public issues, and during the past three years the university theater was able to provide a total of dramas, some of the more prominent ones including
1) The “White Cane” play, which was meant for people with special needs and was presented on Blind Student Day.
2) The poetic drama “And Some Light For Me,” which was meant to shed some light on the events occurring in Gaza.
3) “A Body On The Sidewalk” play, which was presented to focus on Arabic Literature.
4) The poetic drama “In His Shrouded Minarets,” and it was in celebration of Jerusalem, the capital of Arab culture.
5) The play “Promised,” which was presented in a comedic template and in the common language to focus on the social and private issues in the Jordanian community.
6) “Things Are Falling” play, which was presented to highlight the personal profiles in all their positive and negative aspects, and all the internal meanings in personality.
Also, the university theater presents a collection of theatrical workshops at the beginning of each semester, the most prominent being
1) A workshop entitled “How To Become A Successful Actor” which presents a general idea to the student about the theater, its different forms and types, and then practical training starting with vocal training and ending with standing correctly on stage.
2) A workshop entitled “The Art of Writing a Theatrical Script” which presents general ideas about the bases which the student needs to focus on when writing a script and training starts in this workshop with reading scripts and analyzing them to get acquainted with the writing experience, and with the encouragement from the theater department to write and participate, over the past few years there have been more than a few scripts that were approved and presented on stage such as the play “In His Shrouded Minarets”.
3) The workshop of “Décor, Lighting and Theatrical Music” where the talent of students is refined and employed correctly in theatrical works, presented by the university’s theatrical band, and where the students are also given the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills in field work.
4) The workshop of “Theatrical Direction” where a group of students capable of taking responsibility for accomplishing and completing theatrical work which commensurate with the presented idea are prepared, and this is done by dividing the theatrical workshop students to a group of teams where a director is capable of taking on the responsibility of directing the work correctly. A group of students have already presented their own directed theatrical work on the university’s stage.
5) The university theatre presents the results of the workshops at the end of each semester through a group of “Small Businesses In The Form of Sikhs” presented in the university corridors and more than one college to see the students’ first experience.
