Regulations for the University Community Service
 

Issued by the President of the University of Jordan as Per the Dean's Council's Decision Number (218/2002) Dated August 12, 2002.

 

  • These regulations will be termed “regulations for the University Community Service” and they are valid as of the beginning of the first semester of the academic year 2002-2003.
  •  
  • The following words and terms will have these specific designation unless otherwise indicated:
    • University: University of Jordan.
    •  
    • Students: The Student(s) who register(s) for the Bachelor's Degree in different programs.
    •  
    • Office: The Community Service Office of the University.
    •  
  • ommunity service is considered a mandatory graduation requirement (no fees) for all Bachelor's students in the University and will appear on the registration form. Students enrolled in the Teacher certification Program are exempted from this requirement.
  •  
  • The community service requirement aims to achieve the following goals:
  •  
    • To develop a spirit of citizenship among students.
    •  
    • To acquaint students with their community’s situation including that of its individuals, and various sectors in order to motivate them to provide appropriate services for this community.
    •  
    • To provide opportunities for students to develop positive relationships with members and organizations in the community.
    •  
    • To develop an environment of collegiality, generosity, and participation among the students, the university and the community.
    •  
    • o provide opportunities for students to actively take part in various experiences related to the national culture and its subcultures.
    •  
    • To provide learning opportunities for students through the practical application of the principles, concepts and theories they learn at the University.
    •  
    • To train students to take responsibility and to complete tasks according to a plan which incurs the least amount of effort and expense.
    •  
    • o develop knowledge, attitudes, and skills among students that instill within them a sense of commitment to active participation in community service.
    •  
    • To reinforce students’ self  respect and confidence.
    •  
  • The community Service Office has the following responsibilities:
  •  
    • oordination with certain organizations concerning their needs so that these organizations may benefit from students’ services.
    •  
    • Coordination and follow up on the community service requirements at the University level.
    •  
    • Organization of community service activities.
    •  
    • Students can perform the service either individually or as part of a group.
  •  
    • The students should conduct one full working day of community  service during their studies for a Bachelor's degree.
    •  
    • Students should implement this service at least once during their studies.
    • Students should do this service after finishing their first year at the University.
  • The Community Service Office supervises community service and organizes the following activities to achieve this goal:
  •  
    • Arranging and implementing open workshops for first-year students covering different topics such as: citizenship, democracy, university and community, university student behavior, teaching and learning skills, community service and communications skills. Attending these workshops will be voluntary for all students.
    • To advertise the new projects of the community service office at the beginning of each semester specifying the nature, place, the required dates and students for these projects. The completion of the registration in these projects is done through the office.
    • To send a list of the students’ names who completed the community service requirement at the end of each semester to the department of registration.
  • By the end of every scholastic year the university will publicize a list of the distinguished students in the community service office.
  •  
  • Any student enrolled in the university before the beginning of 2002-2003 school year will be exempted from community service requirements if  he/she finished at least 10 community service working hours.
  •  
  • These regulations will cancel the university families and community service regulations issued by the University of Jordan President decision number (7/1/51/14372) dated October, 11th, 1999.
Regulations for the University Community Service
