Al-Taj News – The President of the University of Jordan, Dr. Nadhir Obeidat, stated that the University of Jordan's Aqaba branch was established under royal guidance and patronage, with the aim of facilitating postgraduate studies for Jordanians in the southern region, strengthening the investment climate, and fulfilling the aspirations of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone project, given that higher education is a fundamental pillar and a crucial element in the progress and development of societies.
This came during his meeting yesterday, Thursday, with members of the faculty at the University of Jordan – Aqaba, in the presence of the Vice President and Head of the Aqaba branch, Dr. Amer Salman.
According to a statement issued by the university today, Friday, Obeidat added that the branch will witness a series of steps in the coming period aimed at advancing its development in terms of infrastructure, the construction of university colleges, new programs and specializations, in addition to improving and developing the teaching process and addressing the challenges facing academic plans and programs.
Dr. Obeidat emphasized the importance of developing legislation related to scientific research and promotions, and of reviewing some educational programs offered at various levels according to a comprehensive future vision that serves the university's mission and contributes to fulfilling its aspirations and the needs of the local, regional, and global community. He noted that there is no obstacle to linking some of the planned distance learning programs with the University of Jordan in Amman, introducing new specializations, and improving the infrastructure related to marine science laboratories and graduate studies.
He called for the necessity of preparing students for distance learning as a realistic method that the entire world is moving towards, even after the success in combating the Coronavirus, and moving away from reliance on face-to-face teaching methods. He stressed the importance of the branch administration's role in preparing comprehensive plans, reviewing programs and their outcomes, and providing a university environment that enhances the learning experience.
President Dr. Nadhir Obeidat visited the University of Jordan branch clinic and commended the initiative of the Student Affairs Department, headed by its director, Dr. Omar Hawatmeh, for this distinguished initiative in transforming it into an accredited clinic for PCR testing and vaccinations.
