Library Department Achievements

1. Period (2009-2014)
The number of bookshelves was limited, and students borrowed books manually from a library staff member. The staff member would record the student's university ID number, name, and the book title in a library register, along with the date the student was to return the book (called "return"). There were surveillance cameras monitoring students, books, and library furniture, and students were notified of the book's return date.

2. Period (2014-2020)

The Horizon electronic library system was implemented. Each staff member has a username and password. Through this system, students can borrow books for two weeks. The system works by entering the student's university ID number and the barcode found on the last page of the book using a scanner. The system then displays the student's name, information, details about the borrowed book, and the return date.

(2009-2014) The system also performs a search for books in the library hall to facilitate their retrieval from the shelves. It also handles student clearance for graduates and those who have left the university. Furthermore, it determines the price of a book and marks it as lost. The book is then marked as lost and paid for. If a book is lost, the student pays five times the original price with a receipt from the finance department. Alternatively, the student can provide a copy of the lost book with the same edition, author, and year, but pays a fee of five dinars to the finance department. An official letter is then sent to the main university, and the book is assigned a classification number and a column number.

3. In 2019, the library's cameras were upgraded to 3D to facilitate monitoring of the library, its books, and furniture, as well as student activity.

4. In 2020, a security gate was purchased for monitoring the library's books at a cost of 5,000 dinars, along with self-service book lending devices to make borrowing easier for students.

5. The number of books increased, and communication was established with publishing houses accredited by the University of Jordan to purchase new books. We must also acknowledge the University of Jordan's ongoing support for the Aqaba branch library, providing it with any missing books and keeping it informed of all new developments. As a result, the library now holds 15,545 books in Arabic and English (approximately 10,021 Arabic books and 5,524 English books).

6. The Library Department has undertaken several initiatives, such as the "Friends of the Library" program, which trains a group of students on how to arrange books on shelves according to the Dewey Decimal System.

7. The Library Department has organized several book fairs in partnership with cultural organizations in Aqaba.

8. The Library Department works closely with the Student Activities Department in various activities and events held at the university, such as student union elections and the annual graduation ceremony.
