On World Diabetes Day, the Local Community Health Committee of Al-Shamiya Primary Health Center/Aqaba Health Directorate, organized an awareness event in cooperation with the Aqaba Branch of the University of Jordan. The event, which was attended by the Vice President/President of the Aqaba Branch Prof. Nazeeh Al-Btoush and the Director of the Aqaba Health Directorate Dr. Jamal Obeidat, aimed at raising awareness among students about diabetes, its complications, and the importance of its prevention.

The event reflected the importance of cooperation between health and educational institutions in spreading health awareness. A number of specialists in health fields participated in the event, including nutritionists, laboratory specialists, in addition to representatives of eye centers and Al-Shamiya Health Center. Health advice was provided to students and necessary examinations were conducted for some. Awareness leaflets were also distributed to explain ways of preventing diabetes, the importance of early examination, and how to deal with the disease in general.

The event which was attended by a remarkable number of students emphasized the importance of cooperation between educational and health institutions in spreading awareness about chronic diseases such as diabetes, and the need to intensify efforts to educate health among different segments of society, especially youth. Raising awareness among students contributes to enhancing their health and preventing disease, which benefits society in general​
