The Aqaba Branch Opens a Chess Championship

On behalf of the President of the Aqaba Branch, Dr. Mohammad Al-Maharmeh opened the University Chess Championship, which was organized by the Student Affairs Department, the Student Union and the Jordan's Thagr Chess Academy. The championship witnessed a wide participation of fifty male and female players on the Swiss system of five rounds.

In his speech, Dr. Al-Maharmeh stressed the importance of holding the championship, praising the organization of the Jordan's Thagr Chess Academy, and stressing the university's keenness to host sporting events that contribute to refining students' skills and developing their capabilities.

The championship witnessed strong competitions that demonstrated high levels of skills and strategic planning among the participants; and the winners were:

 

•           First place: Mohammad Jala'a Al-Musa.

•           Second place: Abdul Rahman Samir Kana'an.

•           Third place: Jawad Nour El-Din Hamdan.

 

At the end of the championship, the winners were crowned and given their prizes, then Mr. Mohammad Qabaa, Director of the Student Affairs Department, praised the high sportsmanship of the participants, stressing that the championship was an opportunity to discover promising talents in the sport of chess. The participants expressed their admiration for the organization of the tournament, stressing that it represents a distinguished model for university sports events that combine competition and cooperation.​
