The University of Jordan is unique in its high potential and high competence as far as the administrative, academic, research and community service aspects are concerned. To utilize this uniqueness in community service, the university of Jordan is one of the first universities that established a community service office in 1999, to operate in accordance with the University’s philosophy, that the University is a vital part of its community and is represented by its competent faculty members and students. It is also responsible for communicating and cooperating with its community through voluntary work and providing unique and quality service to the different governmental and nongovernmental sectors in it. The office aims to foster the sense of teamwork, citizenship, cooperation, and effective collaboration.
The University’s aim from introducing the community service as a mandatory graduation requirement for all undergraduate students is to utilize the student's free time and energy to become an energetic source of giving and creativity, to become integrated into the community in order to learn about its needs and to cooperate with its members in finding and implementing solutions for its problems, to gain a variety of experiences. This also will facilitate the development of a holistic graduate personality, from both the academic and non-academic viewpoint.
The community Service office cooperates with different institutions and NGOs for the benefit of the community. The students at the University of Jordan are capable and welling to participate in promoting health and spreading awareness of preventing illnesses among the public, through awareness-raising campaigns. The Community Service Office will cooperate in planning and implementing any activities that meet the objectives of the University and the Community Service Office in serving the community with the cooperation of the different institutions and organizations in the community.
As the director of this office, the plan in the coming year will be to enhance the spirit of community service among the students as part of their personality and not as an obligation only or a mandatory graduation requirement, in addition to expanding and establishing more cooperation with the community and starting new projects with different sectors. Our strategy is to encourage the voluntary work of students through motivating those who are working continuously with the office and are very effective in providing quality services to the community.
